Grasscloth
Grasscloth wallpaper, also spelled grass cloth, is a textured wallcovering woven from natural plant fibers like sisal, abaca, jute and raffia, often with a paper backing. York's grasscloth collection includes natural weaves, metallic and patterned grasscloth, and faux and vinyl options, with designs from Candice Olson, Ronald Redding and Chris Loves Julia.
Natural grasscloth is made from real grasses and plant fibers, and many of our patterns are handcrafted. The fibers are more delicate than standard wallpaper and need careful handling and cleaning. Faux grasscloth recreates the woven look on a printed or embossed wallpaper and usually costs less. Vinyl grasscloth wallpaper puts the texture on a vinyl surface that can be wiped clean. For more, see our faux grasscloth wallpaper.
Natural grasscloth works best in dry rooms that don't see heavy wear, such as living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and home offices, or as an accent wall behind a bed or sofa. Natural fibers aren't moisture-resistant, so for bathrooms, kitchens and busy hallways, choose a vinyl grasscloth or York's High-Performance Type II vinyl, which is scrubbable and waterproof.
For sisal and other woven fibers, see natural fibers wallpaper and paperweave wallpaper. Order a sample to see the texture and color in your room before you buy full rolls.
